Match Recap: Boulder United FC Halo 6, Orlando 5 (OT)
January 24, 2026 | Foothills Fieldhouse
An Instant Classic was made Saturday night in Boulder.
Unfortunately, Atletico was on the wrong side of it. It was Boulder United FC who delivered the dramatic 6–5 overtime victory over Orlando. Securing their first win of the season in a game that showcased both Atletico’s explosive scoring, growth from a young Boulder team, and a hard-earned reminder of the standards required to win over a full 60 minutes.
After conceding early in the first period, Boulder steadily imposed its tempo, responding with four unanswered goals across the second and third quarters. That stretch highlighted Atletico’s ability to score in quick succession and control momentum, converting sustained pressure into results. Boulder outshot Orlando 37–23 overall, a clear indicator of territorial dominance and attacking intent.
The fourth quarter tested that dominance. Orlando capitalized on defensive lapses and struck four times in under nine minutes, flipping a 4–1 deficit into a 5–4 lead. The speed of Orlando’s comeback underscored how quickly games can swing when intensity drops, even briefly. Credit to Atletico for responding immediately. Just 45 seconds after falling behind, Boulder equalized to force overtime, a moment that spoke directly to composure and belief under pressure.
In overtime, Boulder returned to form. Maintaining possession, generating quality looks, and staying disciplined paid off when Ibrahim Alsaaid netted the game-winner, sealing victory for the first time this season.
Beyond the result, the match served as a valuable lesson. Atletico’s pace, depth, and offensive firepower are undeniable. At the same time, the late fourth-quarter surge by Boulder reinforced the importance of sustaining a high level of play for all 60 minutes. Against strong opponents, brief lapses get punished.
Orlando now has their 2nd loss of the season. Both coming within a 1 score match in overtime periods.
Fortunately, Orlando leaves the Fieldhouse maintaining the conference lead, but more importantly and humbling there's one clear takeaway: When Atletico plays at its standard from start to finish, it controls games. When it doesn’t, even dominance can turn into a battle.
The team will look to bounce back in a rescheduled match at Dallas followed by a regular season finale of back to backs on the road against defending champion Amarillo. A weekend that will likely have heavy playoff implications.
